Donald Trump mocks popularity of name Mohammad at Georgia rally

During a campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia, Donald Trump mocked the popularity of the name Mohammad among Muslims while discussing the political situation in Iran. Trump suggested that if one is unsure of a person's name from the Middle East, they could simply say ‘Mohammad,’ claiming a ‘65 per cent chance’ of being correct.

Trump also commented on Iran, stating it is the ‘only country where nobody wants to be president,’ before pretending to ask audience members named Mohammad if they would like to hold the office. The remarks drew a muted response from the crowd.

Civil rights organizations and Muslim advocacy groups, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations, have criticized Trump’s rhetoric, arguing it demonizes and mocks Muslim, immigrant, and ethnic minority communities. His comments follow previous instances of targeting Muslim political figures, such as Representative Ilhan Omar and Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
