Donald Trump mocks Rep. Ilhan Omar amid federal fraud investigation

President Donald Trump has targeted Representative Ilhan Omar with social media posts and public remarks following reports of a federal criminal investigation into her background. On Truth Social, Trump shared a meme depicting Omar as a “Scam Likely” caller originating from Mogadishu, Somalia.

The scrutiny follows a court filing by the DC US Attorney’s Office regarding search warrants for Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence and property. The filing identified the congresswoman as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”

Allegations central to the investigation suggest that the name “Ilhan Omar” may have been an alias used to obtain citizenship in 2000 and to run for office. A former Minnesota federal immigration judge noted that these allegations could call into question official documents filed under her current name. Additionally, US Attorney Jeanine Pirro reportedly confirmed the name discrepancy, stating, “Her real name is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi.”
