Donald Trump Ordered to Pay $5.8 Million to E. Jean Carroll After Jury Verdict

A federal judge in Manhattan ordered that the $5.8 million judgment held in escrow for E. Jean Carroll be paid after a jury found former President Donald Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation. The money, which has accrued interest since the 2023 verdict, is now due to Carroll.

Trump’s attorneys have asked the court to postpone the disbursement, arguing that paying the judgment before the U.S. Supreme Court decides on a rehearing request would cause “irreparable harm” to the president. The Supreme Court recently declined to hear Trump’s appeal of the verdict, leaving the judgment in force. Lawyers for Carroll warn that further legal maneuvers could be used to delay or potentially invalidate both the $5.8 million award and a separate $83.3 million defamation judgment from a 2024 trial.
