Donald Trump orders reduction in U.S.-South Korea military drills

U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to significantly reduce joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea. Trump expressed dissatisfaction with these drills, stating they are expensive, largely funded by the U.S., and send a “completely inappropriate and hostile” message to North Korea. He noted that during his presidency, North Korea has maintained a respectful attitude.

In a separate development, North Korea’s state news agency, KCNA, has condemned the potential sale of AIM-9X Sidewinder tactical missiles and related equipment to South Korea, a deal valued at approximately $125 million. Pyongyang characterized the sale as a new threat to its security and accused the U.S. of encouraging Seoul to bolster its combat capabilities. North Korea also criticized U.S. plans to fund human rights documentation and information gathering regarding the country, labeling it an attempt to destabilize its social system.
