Donald Trump Orders Reflecting Pool Drain, Launches Limited‑Edition 250th‑Anniversary Passport
President Donald Trump said the Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial will be emptied after the July 4, 250th‑anniversary celebrations to repair damage he blamed on vandalism by “extreme‑left” elements. He noted that a $15 million renovation that added a new coating and nanobubble system failed to prevent algae growth and a torn liner, and the pool will be restored to “perfect” condition.
Earlier, Trump posted an image of a special “America250” passport that features his portrait at the Resolute desk and the greeting “Welcome, but behave properly!” The State Department says the limited run of about 40,000 copies will be issued starting 6 July in Washington, D.C., only in person, to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The design has drawn criticism and prompted some senators to oppose a commemorative gold coin bearing Trump’s likeness.
