Trump predicts breakthrough in Ukraine-Russia negotiations

Donald Trump has expressed optimism regarding a potential breakthrough in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to end the ongoing conflict. Following a mission by special envoy Steve Witkoff to Kyiv and Moscow, the White House is promoting the possibility of trilateral talks, which could take place in Abu Dhabi in the coming weeks.

In response to the prospect of negotiations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that while his administration is ready for technical trilateral talks, he cautioned against the removal of sanctions against the Russian Federation before such meetings occur. Zelensky emphasized that negotiations must be supported by leverage, including sanctions, funds, and frozen assets, and called for an energy ceasefire.

Economic discussions are also surfacing, with potential agreements involving Russian diesel supplies to the United States and gas deals in Alaska. Additionally, Trump noted that future agreements involving the Russian energy giant Lukoil may eventually be reached.
