Donald Trump prioritizes ending Ukraine war amid UN General Assembly

U.S. President Donald Trump is prioritizing efforts to end the war in Ukraine, according to UN Ambassador Mike Waltz. Ahead of the UN General Assembly in New York, Waltz stated that Trump aims to resolve the conflict, which he described as the largest land war in Europe.

Trump is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 22. While a meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been discussed for the sidelines of the assembly, officials have not yet finalized the schedule or format for such talks. Ukrainian representatives have indicated interest in discussing a cessation of strikes on energy infrastructure and a maritime truce.

In a separate statement on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Russia has ‘lost control over its diesel industry’ due to the conflict. He noted that numerous Russian diesel refineries have been destroyed or are temporarily out of service following Ukrainian attacks on energy facilities. Trump characterized the war as ‘absurd and endless,’ citing high casualty rates and global economic impacts.
