Donald Trump promises lower oil prices and $5,000 dividends
President Donald Trump has stated that energy prices, which have surged due to the ongoing conflict with Iran, are expected to drop significantly following the upcoming U.S. midterm elections. Addressing reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Trump noted that Brent crude oil has exceeded $101 per barrel and WTI has reached $96 per barrel, attributing the spike to the threat of Iran possessing nuclear weapons.
Amidst declining approval ratings—which a Reuters/Ipsos survey placed at 33%—Trump has proposed a “Trump dividend” during the Republican National Convention in Dallas. He promised to provide $5,000 to every adult American citizen if the Republican Party maintains control of both the House and the Senate in the November 3 elections. The proposed payments would be required to be spent within the United States, though analysts estimate the program could cost approximately $1.35 trillion.
