Donald Trump proposes $5,000 ‘dividend’ for Americans if GOP wins Congress

Donald Trump has proposed a plan called ‘The Trump Dividend,’ promising to pay every adult American $5,000 if the Republican Party maintains control of both the House and the Senate following the midterm elections.

Polling conducted by Strength In Numbers and Verasight indicates significant public skepticism regarding the proposal. According to the survey, only 13 percent of adults believe the president intends to fulfill the promise, while 62 percent view it as a ploy to secure votes. Furthermore, 71 percent of respondents—including 53 percent of Republicans—deemed it inappropriate for a president to make financial promises contingent upon election outcomes.

Critics have raised legal and economic concerns. Legal arguments suggest the promise may violate 18 U.S. Code 597, which prohibits offering or promising bribery to voters. Economically, the cost of providing $5,000 to approximately 269.8 million adults would represent a massive increase in national debt.
