Trump proposes renaming Strait of Hormuz amid US-Iran escalation

Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated following intense military exchanges. U.S. strikes along Iran's southern coast have reportedly caused at least 18 deaths, including two children. One such strike hit a wedding party in the town of Kuhestak, an incident Iran's Foreign Ministry has condemned as a “war crime.” Vice President JD Vance confirmed that the U.S. is conducting an “exhaustive investigation” into the strike, maintaining that the military does not target civilians.

In response to U.S. operations, Iran has launched missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, and Jordan. Kuwait's army reported intercepting these hostile targets using air defense systems.

Amid the conflict, President Donald Trump has made several provocative statements. He suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz to the “Trump Strait,” claiming the U.S. now maintains control over the strategic waterway. He also asserted that the U.S. possesses “virtually unlimited” medium and high-end ammunition to sustain the conflict. While Vice President Vance downplayed the situation as not being an active “war,” he noted that major combat operations have occurred and that the U.S. aims to degrade Iran's defense capabilities.
