U.S. Space Force uniform proposal by Trump sparks controversy

Donald Trump has sparked controversy after sharing AI-generated concept art for a proposed U.S. Space Force service dress uniform on Truth Social. The design features a dark charcoal and midnight black color scheme, a stiff high collar, fitted jackets, black belts, and knee-high black boots.

Trump noted the design was “inspired by the discipline and functionality of the Starship Trooper uniform” and intended for the “Guardians of the space domain.” This choice of inspiration has drawn intense criticism because the 1997 film Starship Troopers, directed by Paul Verhoeven, was a satire of fascism and militarism. Verhoeven has previously stated that he used Nazi-inspired imagery and references to Leni Riefenstahl’s propaganda to critique authoritarianism.

Online observers have compared the proposed aesthetic to various fictional and historical entities, including the Galactic Empire from Star Wars and Nazi SS uniforms. While the images have circulated widely, there is currently no confirmation that this design has been officially adopted by the U.S. Space Force.
