Donald Trump reaffirms goal to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons

President Donald Trump has reaffirmed that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains a primary and permanent goal of the United States. In recent communications, Trump emphasized that the U.S. will not allow Iran to possess nuclear capabilities under any circumstances.

This stance comes amid heightened tensions regarding the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime passage for approximately one-fifth of the world's oil and gas. Trump has previously suggested that following a victory over Iran, he might consider declaring the Strait of Hormuz as U.S. territory.

While maintaining a hardline position, Trump noted that backchannel negotiations with officials from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard are ongoing. He indicated that the U.S. is in no rush to reach a deal. Additionally, Trump issued warnings to Oman, suggesting serious consequences if the nation interferes with U.S. efforts, despite Oman's long-standing role as a mediator between Washington and Tehran.
