Donald Trump rejects negotiations with Iran, pivots to economic pressure

President Donald Trump has stated that the United States has no intention of engaging in direct negotiations or meetings with the government of Iran. Instead, the administration is shifting its focus toward intensified economic pressure and sanctions to target the Iranian economy.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt described the current strategy as an 'economic rejection' operation, intended to continue until Tehran agrees to participate in meaningful negotiations. This policy shift comes as U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has warned international entities that maintaining financial ties with Iran could result in secondary sanctions.

Trump further asserted that while the Iranian government is seeking a deal, the U.S. will not return to previous frameworks, such as the June agreement. He also threatened to penalize third-party countries that continue to trade with Iran. Following reports of the administration's stance, Brent crude oil prices saw a 2.1 percent increase, closing at $89.70 per barrel.
