Donald Trump rejects Secret Service proposal to rebuild Oval Office

Donald Trump stated in an interview with Time magazine that he rejected a proposal from Secret Service officials to dismantle and rebuild the Oval Office. According to Trump, unnamed officials suggested the office should be ‘taken down’ to be replaced with a new one, a recommendation he dismissed by calling the room a ‘special place’ that cannot be rebuilt.

Trump also discussed his ongoing renovations within the White House, noting that while he has implemented various changes—such as adding gold-colored appliqués, gilded mirrors, and ornate decor to the office—the Oval Office itself remains excluded from the plan to tear down structures. He expressed a desire to potentially designate the room as a federal landmark to ensure its preservation.
