Donald Trump reportedly favors JD Vance for 2028 succession
Reports indicate that President Donald Trump has privately signaled his preference for Vice President JD Vance as his successor for the 2028 presidential election. According to the Washington Post, Trump reportedly told donors in the Oval Office, "At the end of the day, we need to elect JD."
While Trump has expressed these sentiments privately, he has maintained a different stance publicly. When questioned by reporters, the President denied having already endorsed Vance, stating it is "too early" to make such a determination.
In early polling, Vance maintains a lead in hypothetical matchups against prominent Democrats. A July Zogby Analytics poll showed Vance leading Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 45% to 37.6% and Governor Gavin Newsom 45.1% to 38.1%. Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has been gaining momentum in polls, has publicly expressed his willingness to support Vance should he enter the race.
