Trump discusses Venezuelan oil and 51st state proposal in Texas

During a campaign rally in Corpus Christi, Texas, President Donald Trump highlighted the arrival of a shipment containing one million barrels of Venezuelan oil. He described the cargo as a “gift” resulting from a recent military victory in Venezuela and characterized the event as “the greatest oil victory in history.”

Trump suggested that Venezuela could potentially become the 51st US state, proposing that the nation elect a governor instead of a president. This comes amid a renewed energy cooperation between Washington and Caracas following the capture of Nicolás Maduro in January.

Under an existing agreement, the company North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) has been granted concessions for 17 oil fields. The Pentagon holds a 35 percent stake in NABEP’s parent company. The US Department of State has also expressed support for a plan to reform Venezuela’s judicial and electoral systems, which could lead to new elections by 2027.
