Trump returns to White House amid Middle East tensions and Houthi missile attack
President Donald Trump unexpectedly returned to the White House on Saturday evening, cutting short his weekend stay at Camp David. While the administration has not provided an official reason for the abrupt change in schedule, analysts link the move to escalating tensions in the Middle East.
In Saudi Arabia, the Saudi-led coalition reported that Houthi rebels, supported by Iran, launched a ballistic missile toward Riyadh. Saudi air defenses intercepted the missile, though reports indicated a fire near the capital's international airport. The Houthis claimed to have targeted sensitive sites, including fuel depots.
In response to the regional instability, the U.S. Department of State and several U.S. embassies issued security alerts for Americans in the Middle East. The warnings cited the 'potential for unforeseen escalation' and advised citizens to remain vigilant and reconsider travel to or through the region due to risks to civilian airports and diplomatic missions.
Simultaneously, Iran has communicated seven conditions for ending the military conflict through Qatari mediators. These demands include a cessation of hostilities on all fronts, the immediate release of frozen Iranian funds, and the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade.
