Trump says Putin and Zelensky both want peace in Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters in Ankara, during a NATO summit, that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have expressed a desire to end the war in Ukraine. Trump said, “Both presidents want to bring the war to an end,” and noted that he had spoken with each leader by phone over the weekend. He made the remark after recent Russian strikes on Kyiv that killed at least 18 people. Trump also reiterated his claim that he had ended eight previous wars, suggesting the Ukraine conflict was “getting much closer” to resolution.

The statements come as diplomatic efforts to negotiate an end to the five‑year conflict continue, with the United States positioning itself as a potential mediator. No concrete negotiations have been announced following Trump’s comments.
