Donald Trump says US‑Iran deal still possible as Gulf attacks intensify

U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters that a reconciliation agreement with Tehran remains "possible" despite the United States conducting a third consecutive night of airstrikes against Iranian targets and re‑imposing sanctions on Iranian ports. At the same time, the U.S. Central Command reported a third wave of strikes on Iranian facilities after Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, attacked a commercial container ship and hit U.S. bases and support sites in Qatar, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard claimed to have damaged a U.S. air‑refueling platform and an aircraft‑maintenance center, while the United States said the operations aimed to degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping. The escalation has driven up global energy prices and is a politically sensitive issue ahead of the November congressional elections in the United States.
