Donald Trump seeks new meeting with Kim Jong Un

U.S. President Donald Trump is seeking to re-establish personal ties and arrange a new meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to reports from The New York Times. While Trump has expressed positive sentiments regarding his relationship with Kim and has reduced the scale of joint military exercises with South Korea, Pyongyang has not yet responded positively to Washington’s initiatives.

Kim Yo Jong, the sister of the North Korean leader, stated she is unaware of any communication between Trump and her brother. She maintained that the reduction in U.S.-South Korean military drills does not change their “provocative and offensive character.” North Korea has continued to reject calls for complete denuclearization and has vowed to strengthen its nuclear capabilities, labeling U.S. policies as hostile.

The potential meeting may be a topic of discussion during upcoming talks between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Xi is scheduled to visit Washington on September 24, marking the second meeting between the two leaders this year. Discussions are expected to cover trade, Taiwan, Iran, artificial intelligence, and critical mineral supplies, with North Korea’s role likely to be a key subject given its long-standing alliance with China.
