Donald Trump shares Senator Tom Cotton's phone number amid daylight saving dispute

President Donald Trump has escalated a dispute with Republican Senator Tom Cotton by publicly sharing Cotton’s personal cellphone number on social media. Trump urged citizens to call the Arkansas senator to pressure him into supporting the Sunshine Protection Act, a bill that would make daylight saving time permanent.

The Sunshine Protection Act passed the House of Representatives in July but has stalled in the Senate. Trump argues that the biannual clock change is “ridiculous,” costly, and detrimental to crime prevention, sports, and daily routines. Conversely, Senator Cotton, who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, opposes the measure, citing concerns that permanent daylight saving time would result in dangerously dark winter mornings for schoolchildren and commuters.

Following the release of the phone number, Cotton was reportedly bombarded with calls and digital payment requests via Venmo. While Cotton has maintained his stance by stating he will always put Arkansas interests first, Trump has criticized the senator’s position as an obstacle to a bipartisan victory.
