Donald Trump signals major decision on Middle East conflict

Donald Trump has stated that he is approaching a “big decision” regarding the potential escalation or resolution of the conflict in the Middle East involving Iran. Speaking to Axios, Trump indicated that “anything could happen” with him regarding the decision to either pursue military action or seek a resolution.

On Tuesday, Trump is scheduled to meet with leaders from six Gulf nations—Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman—on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This meeting is viewed as a critical juncture that could determine whether the region moves toward a diplomatic breakthrough or intensified military operations. Analysts suggest that any resumption of military activities would require the support of these regional allies.

Currently, U.S. officials describe the conflict as being in a stalemate of “neither war nor peace.” While there is a possibility of reaching a diplomatic agreement before the U.S. midterm elections, some officials warn that intense military strikes could follow afterward. Meanwhile, Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have ordered the military to maintain current force levels in the Middle East through the end of the year.
