Donald Trump signs executive order to accelerate veteran benefits

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order designed to accelerate access to benefits and employment opportunities for U.S. military veterans. The order aims to address delays in healthcare coverage, educational opportunities, and job training caused by extended transition timelines.

A primary focus of the order is the modernization of data management and information sharing between the Department of War and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Currently, transferring profiles for transitioning service members can take between 90 and 180 days due to outdated systems. To combat this, the departments are directed to update information technology systems and deploy new digital tools, including artificial intelligence, to ensure service treatment records and personnel files are shared electronically with privacy protections.

The order also mandates that the Department of War, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Labor provide improved career guidance and training. Additionally, the federal government is required to connect transitioning service members with veterans specialists at federal, state, or local levels to facilitate benefit applications.
