Donald Trump slams NATO allies, cites Italy, France, Germany and F‑35 Turkey sale

At the NATO summit in Ankara, U.S. President Donald Trump said he was “very disappointed” with NATO allies for not supporting the United States in the context of the war in Iran. He specifically named Italy, France, Germany and the United Kingdom as countries that “turned their backs.” Trump linked the dispute to the pending sale of F‑35 fighter jets to Turkey, saying a decision on the matter would be taken after recently hearing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s request that the sale be halted.

Trump also commented on Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni, describing her as “a good person” but noting she had “made a mistake” in not helping the United States. He added that he had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, expressing hope for a rapid agreement to end the conflict.
