Donald Trump states preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons is a top U.S. priority

United States President Donald Trump stated that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains the primary goal of the U.S. government. In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that Iran must not possess nuclear weapons in any capacity.

Regarding diplomatic relations, Trump noted that the U.S. is not seeking to extend the term of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Iran, suggesting that Tehran would not agree to the type of deal required by the U.S.

In response, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei noted that while some European nations have expressed willingness to assist in dialogue, no new mediator has emerged between the two sides. Baghaei mentioned that Pakistan and Qatar continue to play roles in facilitating relations, but maintained that the fundamental obstacle to resolving issues is Washington’s approach and its insistence on policies that have repeatedly failed.
