Donald Trump struggles to lower energy prices despite emergency declaration

Nearly two years after declaring a “national energy emergency” to address high fuel prices and inadequate resources, President Donald Trump has struggled to mitigate the current energy crisis. While his administration used executive orders to accelerate fossil fuel permits and bolster the power grid, these interventions have not successfully lowered prices for petroleum or electricity.

Economic analysis suggests the current crisis is driven by conflict in Iran, which has led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the destruction of oil fields and refineries. This has caused a global supply shortage of refined fuels like gasoline and diesel, impacting consumers more significantly than crude oil shortages. Despite using executive powers to push specific oil projects and maintain certain power plants, the complexity of the global energy market has limited the effectiveness of these domestic policy shifts.
