Trump Media sued over Truth API paid access service
A federal lawsuit has been filed in Manhattan against Donald Trump and Trump Media & Technology Group regarding the 'Truth API,' a service that provides paid subscribers with accelerated access to Truth Social posts. The plaintiffs, The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation, allege the service violates the First and Fifth Amendments by creating a paywall for what they argue are official government announcements.
The Truth API, launched in early August, offers automated, machine-readable feeds for a monthly fee ranging from $60,000 to $100,000. The service provides faster access to posts from high-profile accounts, including those of President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other administration officials. Plaintiffs argue this allows market-moving information to be sold to private entities, potentially benefiting Wall Street insiders.
Trump Media has defended the service, stating it uses standard industry methods to deliver information fractionally faster and noting that many platforms already disseminate Trump's content. Following the news of the legal challenge, shares of Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT) fell 6% during Wednesday trading.
