Donald Trump sues BBC for $10 billion over edited Jan 6 speech

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has filed a lawsuit seeking $10 billion in damages against the British public‑service broadcaster the BBC. The claim alleges that the corporation edited his January 6, 2021, speech in a way that misrepresented his words and could have given the impression that he urged his supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol.

Jimmy Mulville, the long‑time producer of the BBC’s satirical panel show “Have I Got News For You,” said the legal action has made the broadcaster “nervous” about continuing jokes about Trump. Mulville urged the BBC to remain calm, describing the lawsuit as more of a pressure tactic than a genuine legal claim, and suggested that the new UK prime minister Andy Burnham might intervene on the broadcaster’s behalf.
