Trump claims intent to declare Strait of Hormuz US territory FAST-MOVING
During a political rally in New York, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory following the defeat of Iran. Trump asserted that the United States currently maintains a naval blockade in the region, stating that no ships pass through the corridor without US permission.
Iranian officials have strongly rejected these claims. Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated that the strait cannot be seized through tweets, aircraft carriers, or executive decrees, maintaining that the waterway is and will remain under Iranian control. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the US of violating a June memorandum of understanding intended to facilitate a 60-day ceasefire period, which is set to expire on August 17, 2026.
The dispute occurs amid heightened tensions and a significant impact on global energy markets. Trump also addressed rising fuel prices, stating he would not apologize for the costs associated with the conflict, which he described as necessary to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Additionally, Trump issued a directive to the US Navy to return to steam-based catapult technology for future aircraft carriers to bolster the domestic maritime industrial base.
