Donald Trump calls for Ukraine leadership change amid peace negotiations

U.S. President Donald Trump has intensified his criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, suggesting that Ukraine may need to select new leadership to negotiate effectively with Russia. Trump stated that his administration is currently in negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed a desire to reach a settlement to end the conflict and prevent further casualties.

Trump criticized Zelenskyy’s approach to peace efforts, claiming the Ukrainian leader has not contributed enough to ending the war and has not provided reciprocal value for the extensive military and intelligence aid provided by the United States. The U.S. President also noted that while he has authorized significant support, including Javelin missiles, the relationship has felt unilateral.

In a separate diplomatic development, Vladimir Putin has proposed a trilateral summit involving Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The proposed meeting would potentially take place during the APEC summit in Shenzhen, China, this November, with an agenda focused on nuclear disarmament and the conflict in Ukraine. While the Kremlin has confirmed discussions regarding such a meeting, no formal agreement has been reached.
