Donald Trump supports IMEC to bypass Iranian energy checkpoints

US President Donald Trump has affirmed his administration’s strong support for the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Speaking during a meeting with GCC and Arab leaders on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Trump emphasized the necessity of shifting Middle East energy infrastructure away from Iranian checkpoints.

Trump cited terrorist attacks by Iran on commercial shipping in neighboring countries as a primary driver for this shift. He stated that the administration supports IMEC as an alternative route for transporting energy and goods, as well as other options like pipelines to facilitate oil extraction.

In a separate meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump discussed the Russia-Ukraine war. Regarding their diplomatic relationship, Trump noted, “We have very good relations. President Zelenskyy and I are trying to find a solution, and I think it will happen.”
