Donald Trump calls for FCC punishment of NBC journalist Kristen Welker

Donald Trump has called for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to punish NBC News moderator Kristen Welker following her comments regarding his political endorsement record. During a preview for ‘Meet the Press’ on a local Washington affiliate, Welker stated that Trump’s primary endorsements have seen ‘some mixed results.’

Trump disputed this characterization on Truth Social, asserting that his endorsed candidates have a 100% success rate in Senate primaries and a 98% success rate in House primaries. He accused Welker of ‘purposeful inaccuracy’ and demanded she be reported to the FCC for ‘rebuke or punishment.’

NBC News has defended Welker, stating that she is ‘one of the best in the business’ and that the network stands by her. While the FCC licenses individual broadcast stations rather than national networks, the agency’s chairman, Brendan Carr, has previously targeted local stations owned by major networks. The FCC has historically maintained that it does not intervene in journalistic content to protect First Amendment rights.
