Donald Trump threatens to veto all legislation if Democrats control Congress
President Donald Trump has stated that he intends to veto every piece of legislation passed by Congress if Democrats win control of the House or Senate in the upcoming midterm elections. Speaking to reporters on the White House South Lawn, Trump described his strategy as a method to force negotiations, suggesting that a period of gridlock would eventually lead Democratic leaders to seek deals with him.
“If it happens, you veto, veto, veto, and then they come and they say, ‘How do we get it done?’ And you make a deal,” Trump said.
The threat comes amid polling and forecasts suggesting Democrats may flip control of the House, driven by public concerns regarding the cost of living and the Iran war. Analysts note that such a strategy could impact critical issues, including the debt limit and government funding, potentially leading to shutdowns if a legislative agreement is not reached during a lame-duck session.
