Roger Clemens to receive Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Donald Trump announced during a campaign rally in San Antonio, Texas, that he will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to former Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens. Trump, who described Clemens as ‘maybe the greatest pitcher of all time,’ noted that the honor is a significant recognition that ‘is a big step up from the Hall of Fame.’

Clemens, a seven-time Cy Young Award winner and two-time World Series champion, was visibly surprised by the announcement. He stated that the honor ‘supersedes anything that, obviously, I’ve done in my playing career’ and expressed gratitude for receiving it from the president.

The announcement comes amid ongoing discussions regarding Clemens’ eligibility for the Baseball Hall of Fame. Despite a highly decorated 24-season career with teams including the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Houston Astros, his candidacy has been hindered by long-standing allegations of performance-enhancing drug use, which Clemens has consistently denied.
