Donald Trump to meet with prominent Hasidic leaders
President Donald Trump is reportedly scheduled to meet with several prominent Hasidic rebbes and yeshiva leaders at the White House this Thursday. The group is expected to include Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum, the Satmar Rebbe of Kiryas Joel, and his brother Rabbi Yekusiel Yehuda Teitelbaum, the Satmar Rebbe in Williamsburg, as well as Rabbi Aryeh Malkiel Kotler of the Lakewood yeshiva in New Jersey.
While the official purpose of the meeting is reportedly to offer Rosh Hashanah greetings, some reports suggest the discussion may touch upon the Israeli military draft for yeshiva students. Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum has indicated an intention to ask the president for assistance regarding the campaign against the Israeli draft.
The planned meeting has drawn criticism from conservative commentators Laura Loomer and Sid Rosenberg. They have questioned the decision to invite leaders from the Satmar movement, citing its longstanding anti-Zionist stance and past political activities in New York. The White House has not yet issued an official confirmation or a formal guest list for the event.
