Donald Trump unveils Qatar‑gifted Air Force One presidential jet

President Donald Trump introduced a refurbished Boeing 747‑8 at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, describing it as the most luxurious presidential aircraft ever. The jet, originally part of Qatar’s fleet, was gifted to the United States in May 2025 and has been repainted in navy blue with a red stripe and fitted with a new interior featuring premium leather, high‑end carpeting and artwork.

The U.S. Air Force says the plane meets strict security standards after extensive upgrades, with the renovation cost estimated at about $400 million, though some analysts argue total expenses could approach $1 billion. Trump said the aircraft will serve until newer Air Force One jets from Boeing are delivered, projected for 2028, and indicated it will be used for the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara and other diplomatic trips. The gift has sparked debate over ethical and constitutional concerns about accepting a high‑value foreign donation for presidential use.
