Donald Trump unveils White House driveway and helipad renovations

President Donald Trump has unveiled several renovation projects at the White House, including the replacement of the south side driveway with white granite mined in California. Trump stated the previous asphalt surface was “not appropriate for a great house.”

During a press tour of the nearly completed $13 million South Lawn helipad, the president signed a granite slab that will be installed at the site. He noted that the helipad project, intended to prevent Marine One helicopters from damaging the grass, is expected to be funded by Sikorsky Aircraft, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin.

Other ongoing or proposed renovations include an East Wing ballroom and a visitor screening center. Trump has criticized opponents of the ballroom project, labeling them “disloyal” to the country.
