Donald Trump updates progress on National Mall Reflecting Pool renovation
President Donald Trump announced that the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall is approximately 85% full following recent renovation efforts. In a social media post, Trump stated the landmark has not functioned properly since 1922 and noted that cameras have been installed to prevent vandalism.
The renovation project has faced significant challenges and public scrutiny. Earlier this summer, the administration announced plans to drain the pool and paint the floor “American flag blue,” a move that prompted legal action. Following initial repairs, the pool experienced issues with algae blooms and a blue liner that reportedly began floating to the surface, necessitating further maintenance.
While Trump has attributed recent damage to vandals, including claims of chemical poisoning of grassed areas, investigations have pointed to issues stemming from the renovation process itself. The Justice Department has previously filed charges against an individual for vandalism related to the site.
