Donald Trump urges Senate to pass permanent daylight saving time
President Donald Trump has called on the United States Senate to permanently implement daylight saving time, labeling the biannual clock changes “ridiculous.” During a rally in Mississippi on October 26, Trump argued that the current system causes confusion and that most Americans prefer more daylight in the evening.
The Sunshine Protection Act, which would end the practice of switching between standard time and daylight saving time, was passed by the House of Representatives earlier this year. However, the legislation remains stalled in the Senate. Trump warned that without immediate action, clocks in much of the country will revert to standard time on November 1 as scheduled.
In addition to his remarks at the rally, Trump used Truth Social to criticize the Senate for failing to advance the bill, asserting that a large majority of the country supports the change to avoid manual clock adjustments.
