Donald Trump urges voters to treat midterms as personal referendum

Donald Trump has urged supporters to treat the upcoming 2026 midterm elections as a personal referendum on his presidency. During a rally in Durant, Oklahoma, Trump suggested that Republicans must win to prevent potential impeachment efforts, stating, “Pretend I’m running, please. If we don’t win, they’ll end up impeaching me.” While a change in congressional control could alter which party holds the power to initiate impeachment in the House, it does not automatically trigger the process.

In a separate development regarding election integrity, claims from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) concerning illegal voters in Nevada have seen a significant decline. Reports indicate that figures previously cited as high as 16,000 have dropped to zero in less than a month. These claims regarding non-citizen voter fraud have been a point of contention, with critics noting that instances of such fraud are statistically rare and often stem from administrative confusion regarding voter registration and identification.
