Donald Trump visit to Ireland sparks planned protests

Protests are being organized across Ireland in response to the upcoming visit of U.S. President Donald Trump, scheduled for September 12 and 13. Demonstrations are planned for Dublin, Shannon, and near the president’s golf course in Doonbeg, County Clare.

Labour Senator Nessa Cosgrove has described the visit as a ‘security nightmare,’ emphasizing the significant responsibility placed on the Irish police force, An Garda Síochána, to ensure safety during the trip. Protesters have cited various grievances, including fuel prices and international policies regarding Israel and Palestine.

Trump’s itinerary includes attending the Irish Open at Doonbeg, meeting with Prime Minister Micheál Martin at Farmleigh House, and participating in a ceremony for the new U.S. embassy in Ballsbridge. The visit will also mark his first meeting with Irish President Catherine Connolly.
