Donald Trump warns that domestic communism is the United States' biggest threat

Former President Donald Trump asserted in recent remarks that American communists pose the greatest danger to the United States. He said, "I would be the greatest communist in history," and argued that while communism is "easy to sell," it inevitably leads to economic failure, scarcity and loss of national power.

Trump cited a Cato Institute‑YouGov poll showing that 62% of Americans aged 18‑29 view socialism favorably and 34% view communism positively. He singled out New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a self‑identified socialist, as a concrete example of the domestic left he characterises as a threat, linking the rising youth support for left‑wing policies to a broader ideological battle in American politics.
