Trump considers converting White House press room into indoor pool

President Donald Trump is considering a proposal to relocate the White House press corps and convert the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room into an indoor swimming pool. According to reports from The New York Times, Trump has discussed this idea with various officials, including former Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, suggesting the move could serve as a “last legacy.”

The proposal aims to restore the space to its original use as an indoor pool, which was originally built in 1933 for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The pool was later covered during the Richard Nixon administration in 1970 to create the current briefing room.

While the press corps could potentially be moved to the nearby Eisenhower Executive Office Building, the move is viewed by analysts as highly symbolic regarding press freedom. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung has not ruled out the possibility, stating that “all options remain on the table.”

This development follows ongoing tensions between the administration and various media outlets, including legal battles regarding access for journalists from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico.
