Donald Trump’s $1.5 B Vietnam Golf Resort Triggers Mass Land Displacement

A $1.5 billion Trump‑branded resort is set to be built on about 900 hectares of land in the Châu Ninh area of Vietnam’s Red River delta. More than four thousand farming families were forced to exhume ancestors’ remains before bulldozers cleared the fields, farms and burial sites.

The project will include three golf courses, luxury villas and hotels. The Trump Organization is not providing financing; a Vietnamese partner paid roughly $5 million for the brand licence and will run the golf club. Approval was granted on 16 May 2025, coinciding with Hanoi’s trade talks with Washington. Eric Trump and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the ground‑breaking ceremony.

Analysts describe the development as part of a broader “brick diplomacy” strategy, noting similar licensed ventures in Albania, Georgia, the Gulf monarchies, Dubai (licensed to Saudi firm Dar Global) and a $4 billion complex in Oman. The Trump family profits from branding fees, while ownership remains in a family trust.
