Donald Trump’s approval drops to 34% as Americans blame him for cost‑of‑living crisis
President Donald Trump’s approval rating fell to a record‑low 34% in a new Economist‑YouGov poll, matching the post‑Jan. 6 level and marking one of the steepest declines for a modern U.S. president. The poll shows his base remains solidly partisan, but overall support has eroded amid a persistent cost‑of‑living squeeze and an unpopular war with Iran.
A separate Politico survey found 53% of U.S. adults say the cost of living is worse than ever, with 79% reporting higher gas prices, 77% higher food costs and 62% higher medicine prices since Trump took office. The majority blame the president for the economic strain and for the impact of the Iran conflict. Trump later dismissed concerns about Americans’ finances, saying he only thinks about preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
