Donald Trump’s approval plunges amid Iran war and rising gas prices
Recent polls show President Donald Trump’s job approval has fallen to historic lows. The AP‑NORC survey conducted July 23‑27 2026 recorded a 33 % approval rating, while the Quinnipiac University poll for the same period gave him 32 % approval. The Civiqs online‑tracking poll, which has collected over 120,000 responses since January 2025, reported a net approval of –24 as of July 30 2026.
The decline is evident in traditionally Republican strongholds: Trump now registers negative approval in at least eleven states he carried by double‑digit margins in the 2024 election. Analysts link the slide to the February 28 2026 U.S.–Israeli military strike on Iran and the subsequent closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which cut daily oil flows from about 15 million to 2.5 million barrels and pushed gasoline prices higher. Brent crude fell roughly 4.5 % to $84 a barrel after Trump’s comments on the Iran negotiations.
Trump has repeatedly dismissed the surveys as “fake” on his Truth Social platform, claiming his real numbers are the highest of his career, even as the data suggest a steep erosion of support ahead of the November midterm elections.
