Donald Trump’s approval rating hits record low as cost‑of‑living concerns rise

A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll shows President Donald Trump’s overall approval at 35%, the lowest it has been during his tenure. The survey indicates that 70% of respondents disapprove of his handling of the cost of living, while only 22% approve. By comparison, former President Joe Biden left office with 63% disapproval on the same issue.

The poll links the dip in Trump’s ratings to rising fuel prices and inflation, driven in part by the ongoing U.S.–Iran conflict that began in February. Gasoline prices in the United States have climbed to about $4.16 per gallon, up from $2.98 before the war, and 59% of respondents expect further increases over the next year. The economic strain is feeding concerns ahead of the November midterm elections, with 41% of voters saying they would choose Democratic candidates if Congress were up for election today.

Political analysts warn that the combination of higher living costs and the war could hurt Republican prospects in the upcoming elections, while Democrats are using the economic turmoil to criticize Trump’s policies.
