Global Trust in Trump Plummets as U.S. Image Weakens Worldwide

A Pew Research Center survey conducted between February and May 2026 interviewed 42,151 adults across 36 countries. Only 23 % said they trust President Donald Trump to handle international affairs, while 37 % gave a positive rating to the United States and 57 % a negative one.

Confidence in Trump fell in 16 of the 24 nations where comparable data exist, with no country showing an improvement. Notable declines were recorded in Canada – where the share seeing the U.S. as a reliable partner dropped from 83 % in 2022 to 35 % – and Germany, where the perception that the U.S. considers other nations’ interests fell from 60 % to 23 %. Indonesia was among 15 countries (including Italy, Nigeria, South Africa and South Korea) that saw sharp drops in trust. European respondents expressed the most unfavorable views, while Israel posted the highest favorable rating for the United States at 81 %. Across the surveyed nations, only 35 % believe the U.S. contributes to global peace and stability, and 32 % think it takes other countries’ interests into account.
