Donald Trump’s Mar-a‑Lago Calls Raise U.S. Espionage Concerns

Espionage expert Calder Walton argues that former President Donald Trump’s habit of taking phone calls from reporters at his Mar‑a‑Lago resort, combined with the resort’s weak security, makes him the most listened‑to U.S. president by foreign intelligence services. Walton notes that the president’s publicly known mobile number and the resort’s documented vulnerabilities – including past incidents of classified documents left unsecured – provide ample opportunity for foreign agents to eavesdrop.

He warns that adversaries such as Russia and China, and even allies like Israel, are “almost certainly” monitoring Trump’s conversations as the war in Iran evolves, raising the risk of espionage, subversion and sabotage.

The analysis underscores heightened concerns within U.S. intelligence circles about the potential influence of foreign powers through routine presidential communications.
