Trump administration plans $50 million of MAGA‑aligned foreign aid grants

The Trump administration is preparing a package of foreign‑aid grants to fund initiatives aligned with the MAGA movement in Europe and other regions. Documents obtained by the Financial Times show proposals for $2 million to support groups fighting what the State Department calls “censorship” tied to the EU’s Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act, and $5 million to build a “civilizational alliance” in Europe. Additional funding would go to organizations such as the Free Speech Union International and the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, with a proposed $40 million award to the latter. Grants are also slated for groups in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Brazil and South Africa. The plan marks a shift in U.S. foreign‑aid priorities toward ideological goals and could heighten tensions with the European Union over digital‑policy regulation.
